FAQ's
1. What languages do you teach?
All languages! We have a database of instructors that teach languages from English to Pashto to Mandarin. Please inquire about any language you wish to learn.
2. What is your Conversational method?
Our native instructors are trained to avoid translations and grammar memorization lessons that dramatically lengthen the language learning curve. Our Conversational method ensures that you quickly feel comfortable speaking through conversation, repetition and visual learning. We help you develop functional conversational skills in the target language that you can use in any setting.
3. What programs do you offer?
We offer group, private, and semi-private classes. We also offer corporate and after-school programs.
4. What's a Block?
We use Blocks, rather than "beginner," "intermediate" and/or "advanced" labels to more accurately place you in a course. Each Block lasts 36 hours and covers material appropriate to that level.
5. How many Blocks are there?
We teach language to a variety of students with many different levels of experience, thus we have an offering of 20 Blocks to cover every need. Don't get discouraged, though! Blocks 13 and up, for example, are for advanced students who want to perfect their language skills and may delve into topics such as literature, giving speeches, and the like.
6. How many Blocks does it take to become fluent?
This is a difficult question to answer, as every student has unique language learning abilities. However, know that each Block covers a great deal of material as well as speaking and listening practice, allowing you to develop basic conversational skills within the first Block. We find that most of our students feel comfortable with the language and confident with their basic conversational skills by Block 4. A consistent exposure to the language through your own initiative, such as doing exercises with your student workbook, will greatly increase the pace at which you learn and will increase your retention.
7. What is the average ratio of students to instructor?
Our group classes can have anywhere from four to twelve students. With private instruction, you have our native instructor all to yourself.
8. How do I know to which Block I belong?
To determine which Block best suits your level, we ask you a few questions from our Block Placement Questionnaire in the target language. If you've never taken formal language classes before or remember little from your high school or college language classes in the past, you will probably benefit the most by starting at Block 1.
9. What's better for me, private or group instruction?
Each person has his/her own learning style and preference. With our private instruction, you can choose your own pace, schedule, and focus areas. In this program, students generally learn at a faster pace due to the one-on-one attention they receive. If you love learning with others or prefer the set schedule, our group courses will be a better fit.
10. How much do your classes cost?
Because we offer various options for language classes, we can work with you on pricing. Please call or email us to learn about our rates.
11. What type of materials do you use?
We have a Pedagogical Team that selects the material to suit our Conversational method. We offer student workbooks for purchase that provide exercises and vocabulary and follow the topics covered in class. Most workbooks also incorporate an audio CD program that students may use in our computer lab. Also, our instructors regularly incorporate a plethora of materials to enhance their classes, including toys, tangible materials, games, projectors and computers.
12. Do you have corporate packages?
Yes. We provide special programs suited to meet the specific needs of your company. We can teach your employees at our school or we can send one of our native instructors to you. Please see our corporate packages page for more information.
13. How do I sign up for a class?
First, you choose any language you're interested in learning. Next, you choose one of our programs that is right for you. If you're interested in a group course, check out our schedule of upcoming courses. Finally, call or email us for rates and to sign up for the course you want. You can easily refer to the how to get started section for specific instructions.
14. What if I don't see a course that fits my schedule in your group course schedules?
If you don't see a course for your Block level or that fits your schedule, let us know. We'll propose and try to fill a course that's right for you. Another alternative is private instruction, which gives you complete schedule and level flexibility.
15. Do you offer specialized or customized classes?
Yes. Through our private classes, we can tailor a private class to meet your specific needs. For example, if you need to focus on Business or Medical Spanish, we develop a course to ensure that you learn the most important topics and vocabulary in these fields.
